Passports and Visas
British or Caymanian passports/visas: Go to the Passport Office which is on the 2nd floor of Sussex House, Elgin Avenue (next to Immigration) on Mondays through Fridays from 9am to 3pm. They will advise you on everything you need to do to complete the application. Note that if you want an electronically readable passport (required for transit through the US) you must request the passport be sent to England to be issued (and not Jamaica), Tel: (345) 244 2274. UK visa forms can be downloaded from www.ukvisas.gov.uk.
American passports: Go to the US Consular Agency, located at 222 Mirco Centre, 2nd Floor, Tel: (345) 945 8173. It is a little difficult to get through on the phone, so best to go in person for inquiries. Check their opening hours as they may change: Monday, Wednesday and Friday 7.30–11am or Thursday and Friday 12–3.30pm. Service is provided to US citizens only and they do not deal with visas. They service American Citizens, both residents and tourists, assisting with passports and any emergency services that an American citizen may have. American citizens should register with the Department of State (www.travel.state.gov) so in case of an emergency (for example evacuations for hurricanes) you can be contacted via the warden system.
For US visa applications only: Either contact the US Embassy in Jamaica (Tel. 1 (876) 702 6000), Gail Duquesnay at Adventure Travel, Tel: 945 1511, or use the specialist services of ConsulTech (Tel. 945 2223) in Cayman. However you should be aware that it is a requirement to attend the embassy in person for an interview to provide biometric data. US visa forms can be downloaded from www.evisaforms.state.gov.
Canadian passports: The Canadian Consulate is open from Monday to Thursday 10am–1pm and can be reached on Tel: (345) 949 9400. The Cayman Passport Office also has Canadian passport application forms.
Passports for other nationalities: The Cayman Islands Passport Office Tel: (345) 244 2274 can advise on other nationalities. Alternatively, go on-line to find the nearest embassy for your country.
Other visas: If you are going on a holiday or a business trip to a country where you do not have a native passport you might need to obtain the relevant visa. Either contact the relevant embassy directly or use the services of a specialist such as ConsulTech.
