DENTAL CARE
There are numerous dentists living and practising on Grand Cayman. The Cayman Islands Hospital also has a Dental Department (Tel: (345) 949 8602 or 244 2741) that offers emergency services from 7.30am, on a first come first serve basis. The cost difference between the government dentists and private dentists can be considerable, but the waiting list at the hospital can be substantial. The reason the government dental clinic is so busy is because all government employees and their families use their services as they are not covered to use private practitioners unless they pay 100%. Some health insurance plans do not cover dentistry. It is important to read the policy carefully to determine the benefits and to confirm with your employer that you have dental cover. Costs for services vary quite a lot between different dentists. Orthodontics may be covered for children under the age of 16, on most premier plans at 50% (up to a maximum of US$2,000 per year) but only up to US$1,000 per year on standard plans.
